President's Message

Honouring Roots, Building Futures

Howdy!

The Black, Gold, and Green of the Jamaican flag symbolize the strength, creativity, natural beauty, and abundant resources of Jamaica. These qualities, along with the rich history and commitment of the Jamaican Canadian community, enrich Calgary and Canada as a whole. We honor those who ventured to Canada years ago, overcoming social and cultural barriers to pave the way for us. I commend former presidents of the Jamaican Canadian Association Alberta (JCAA) for their contributions to the association and the Calgary community.

As president, I see the JCAA as more than just a name; it represents potential and opportunities to build a resilient and dynamic community. My vision is to foster relationships across generations and communities through education, volunteerism, sports, citizenship, integration, and partnerships.
My parents, the late Rev. Ivan and Olga Ferguson, were community leaders who contributed to the development of Labyrinth, St Mary, Jamaica, and lived by the mantra “with health and strength, we can make anything happen.” Inspired by these values, our energetic JCAA team is driven by optimism and dedication to community growth and development.

Join us in our journey to make a lasting impact in Calgary, Canada, and beyond.

Jamaicans support eachother within the community

Welcome to the Jamaican Canadian Association Alberta

Welcome to the Jamaican Canadian Association Alberta (JCAA). Established in 1980, we have proudly promoted Jamaican culture in Calgary and area. In 1982, we registered as a nonprofit organization under the Alberta Societies Act. The JCAA is committed to supporting the community through information and referral services on key topics such as immigration, Black history, financial wellness, health, and technology. Our mission is to unite the community through active engagement and collaboration, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity. Guided by our vision to enhance Alberta’s cultural landscape, we strive to empower individuals and strengthen the connections that drive positive change for all.
